A kammprofile gasket (also called a serrated metal gasket or camprofile gasket) consists of a solid metal core with concentric serrations (grooves) machined into both sealing surfaces. A soft, conformable facing material — typically flexible graphite, PTFE, or non-asbestos — is bonded to both sides of the grooved core.
When bolted between flanges, the soft facing material compresses into the serrated grooves, creating a tight, metal-to-metal seal that resists blowout and thermal cycling. This design makes kammprofile gaskets an ideal replacement for double-jacketed gaskets in heat exchanger applications, offering better sealing performance and longer service life.
