A solid metal gasket (also called a metal ring gasket or RTJ gasket) is a one-piece metallic sealing element machined from a solid block of metal. Unlike kammprofile, spiral wound, or jacketed gaskets — which rely on soft filler materials — solid metal gaskets achieve their seal through metal-to-metal contact. When compressed between RTJ flange grooves, the gasket deforms plastically, filling the groove and creating a leak‑tight seal that withstands extreme pressures and temperatures.
Solid metal gaskets are the preferred sealing solution for API 6A wellhead equipment, high-pressure pipelines, subsea systems, and refineries where zero leakage is mandatory and service conditions exceed the capabilities of soft‑filled gaskets.
